Night Passage is a 10 minute work for alto saxophone and marimba. As the title suggests, the piece is meant to take the listener on an imaginary journey through the night; a dream sequence of sorts.
Structurally, the piece is comprised of a series of dialogues between the two instruments punctuated by saxophone solo interludes. In the opening portion of the piece, intricate marimba patterns play against a sustained line in the saxophone. As the journey continues, the piece becomes increasingly more rhythmic and energetic in both instruments.
Night Passage in approximately 10 minutes in duration.
